Friday 6th May Whitby Community College Doors 7pm With Special Guests from Whitby CC Musician, singer, producer, curator, twice mercury music prize nominee, winner of BBC R2 Folk awards ‘best album’ and ‘best traditional track’ for 2010, scion of a UK folk royal family, Eliza Carthy is one of the UK’s preeminent modern musicians. She is well known for not just her 20 years performing folk, but her numerous innovative boundary-crossing projects and collaborations. Now comes a new move. On Eliza’s new selfpenned album NEPTUNE in the stars (wants his bloody pound of fish) (release date 9 May 2011) and tour, the 5-piece propose a new style of modern visceral British music, full of that uniquely British blend of wit and surrealism, the light-hearted with the melancholic. THE ELIZA CARTHY BAND will be playing a special ALBUM LAUNCH & FUNDRAISING show at WHITBY COMMUNITY COLLEGE on Friday 6th May. The college performing arts music department desperately needs funds to develop their facilities for the talented students at the college to be able to develop their skills and put on productions at their college site. Eliza, a local girl, is delighted to be able to support these efforts and a percentage of profits from this show will be donated towards the college fundraising pot. Eliza and her band will be supported on the night by local students, who will perform their own music. Tickets are available from the College priced @ £ 15 on the door, £12 concessions/advance and £6 for Whitby Community College students.
