Eliza Carthy & Norma Waterson

First ever duo album from award winning mother & daughter

the gift eliza carthy norma waterson

Norma Waterson and Eliza Carthy are not simply two of the UK’s finest exponents of traditional song. With their rich, distinctive and authentic voices, mother and daughter have engaged new audiences and admirers across two generations. Norma and Eliza have 3 prestigious Mercury Prize nominations between them, have both been presented with BBC Folk Singer of the Year awards, as well as innumerable other accolades.

Although they have recorded independently and with an impressive array of other musicians over the years, 'Gift' is Norma and Eliza's first duo release. The album also features a stellar supporting cast of friends and family, including guitar hero Martin Carthy, Danny Thompson (double bass), Martin Simpson (banjo), Roger Williams (trombone), Marry Waterson (vocals) and Oliver Knight (who co-produced ‘Gift’ at his studio, Panda Sound, with his cousin, Eliza).

The 11 tracks on this dazzling new album were carefully selected by Norma and Eliza for their personal resonance and include folk classics (Poor Wayfaring Stranger, Bunch of Thyme) as well as some jazz-infused or Old Timey gems (Ukulele Lady, Prairie Lullaby).

No matter what the origin, Norma Waterson & Eliza Carthy bring all these songs to life with their great musicality and wonderfully compassionate voices. 'Gift' is due for release by their long-standing label, Topic Records, in July 2010. A tour will follow in the Autumn.
